ANDOVER Lions finally relinquished their perfect league record as they fell to a shock 4-1 home defeat against Upham.

The Lions went into the match yet to drop a single point in their opening 16 league games but were well beaten by a determined Upham side.

Despite being without key figures Dan Magee, Joe Wright and Tommy Stringer, the Lions were boosted by the debut of new signing Danny Urry.

The former AndoverTown star nearly opened his account after 23 minutes when he hooked a shot wide after scooping up a poor clearance from a corner.

However it was the visitors who took the lead when The Lions failed to clear their lines and Ormiston calmly rolled past two defenders before firing into the corner for the only goal of the half.

With a strong wind behind them in the second half Andover started far more brightly.

The Lions created several chances and were denied twice by two excellent saves from Mackinder in the Upham goal.

Andover finally made the breakthrough when Lock battled past two defenders and the keeper before slotting into the empty net.

Neve replaced Beavis as a fired up Lions side sensed a victory.

However a calamitous period followed for The Lions who conceded three quick goals.

On 68 minutes Baxter got stuck in the mud and failed to collect a back pass that was seized upon by Munday.

As The Lions pressed to get back on level terms Shalloe added a third on the break before Ormiston rounded Baxter for a fourth on 80 mins.

The Lions continued to push on in the hope of pulling something back and Allen was again denied by the visiting keeper.

Urry shot wide from the edge of the box but The Lions looked a beaten team.

Even two penalties for The Lions in added time could not alter the scoreline with Paris blazing over and Keogh having his effort saved.

Despite the defeat The Lions stay top of Division One in the Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League Manager John Smith said: “We were second best today all over the park; I’m very disappointed and have let the lads know.

“That was not acceptable and it will need to serve as a big wake up call.

“You get out what you put in and today we didn’t put anything like enough in.

“The players need to take a big look at themselves and come back next week with a different approach.”
