ANDOVER Town were held to a 0-0 draw on Saturday as they went head-to-head with fellow promotion chasers Blackfield and Langley.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the hotly contested Wessex Premier League match-up, which featured the competition's second and third placed sides.

As expected, Town boss Neil Benson made 10 changes to his youthful midweek side, who were beaten 5-0 by Fleet in the North Hants Senior Cup.

Only midfielder Alex Dockree retained his place in the starting line-up from Wednesday night, while the likes of goalkeeper Jamie Bray, Charlie Gunson and captain Lewis Benson all returned to the first 11.

Meanwhile new signing, and former Blackfield manager, Ashley Vickers, made his debut for Town.

And the ex-professional, who has previously played for the likes of Eastleigh and Weymouth, slotted straight into the centre half role, helping Town keep a clean sheet and earn what could be a vital point come the end of the season.

The result leaves Andover four points away from second placed Blackfield and Langley and 13 points from run-away league leaders Salisbury.

Salisbury will automatically be promoted with a league win, but second place could still mean promotion depending on how many teams are relegated from the Southern League.

Town are fully in the race for that second spot but will have to carry their current unbeaten form throughout their remaining seven games in order to overturn Blackfield's slight point advantage.

Andover will have a chance to add another three points to their promotion charge when they face bottom side Folland Sports at home on Tuesday night.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
