ANDOVER Town goalkeeper Jamie Bray says the players are “taking one game at a time” as they push towards possible promotion from the Wessex Premier League.

The jovial goalkeeper, described my many as “the joker of the dressing room”, has been in impressive form lately, marshalling a defensive unit that has conceded just three goal in their last six league games.

Bray and his solid back four have also been key to helping Town put together an impressive 16-game unbeaten run in the league, 12 of which they have won.

The recent form has pushed Andover up to third in the table, just a point behind second-placed Blackfield and Langley, with the season rapidly coming to a close.

If Town can maintain their current run, and leapfrog Blackfield they could be in line for a promotion to the Southern League – a prospect which Bray is excited about.

He told the Advertiser: “I think it would be great for the club and for the town.

“It’s an exciting time for the club.

“We’ve got really good facilities and fantastic support and this is a great opportunity to bring in more high-profile players and develop the club even further.

“But as players we also do things off the pitch, like coaching the youngsters, particularly the likes of Lewis and Brad Benson – or the Neville brothers as well call them.

“I think being a Southern League club would give us the opportunity to do even more.”

Despite his enthusiasm, the goalkeeper says he and the rest of the team are keeping their feet firmly on the ground.

He said: “No-one is getting carried away.

“We’ve got a really good dressing room at the moment and we’ve got an organised group of lads who are all working together.

“But of course it [promotion] is in the back of our minds.

“We are just trying to take one game at a time and keep the run going and win each game.”

Town boss Neil Benson recently praised Bray as “influential” in his side’s recent run while also revealing his goalkeeper as the mastermind behind recent signing of former professional Ashley Vickers.

Bray said of the ex-Dorchester defender: “Yeah Ash is a really good friend of mine.

“His experience will be so valuable in these last few games.

“He’s been out for a while but he’s still so fit – he’s a machine.”
