A NEW look Andover New Street side kicked off their Wessex League Division One campaign with a 3-2 win over Fleet Spurs on Saturday.

With new manager Dean Hutchins bringing in nine new players to the squad, they faced a tough first outing against a seasoned Fleet Spurs side.

However it was the young Street side who prevailed at Foxcotte Park on Saturday with goals from Jaydyn Englefield, Michael Morey and Nathan Rae.

Having rode-out early nerves, Andover took the lead on 13 minutes.

Rae latched onto Ashley Brown’s wide ball before producing a venomous strike, forcing a save from Fleet goalkeeper Mark Appleby.

However he could only palm the ball into the path of Englefield to tap in at the back post.

The talented youngster turned provider minutes later with a inch-perfect cross for new signing Michael Morey whose ferocious strike rifled past the helpless Appleby.

Fleet hit back soon after when Rob Colfer produced a superb volley from 18-yards after latching onto a half-cleared corner.

However Street restored their two goal lead shortly before half time when Rae cut in from the left and beat several players before lashing a shot into the bottom corner from a tight angle.

Street looked as if they would take their 3-1 lead into the break, but just a minute from half time Adam Nash headed home a pin-point Drew Matthews' cross.

The combination of a high-powered first half and warm conditions left both sides tired despite the half time break.

Chances dried up, although Street had a golden opportunity to seal the game when Lee Morris found Przemek Rozanski in the six yard box.

However the forward curled his shot narrowly wide of the post.

Fleet piled on the pressure as the game drew to a close but were denied a late equaliser by Street goalkeeper Dave Tasker.

With a minute to go Rob Colfer broke through the New Street backline, but the experienced stopper pushed his effort wide to seal the win for Andover.

After the game Street manager, Dean Hutchins, said "Today was about us trying to put everything we have worked on in pre-season in to practice and try to play the way I want us to.

"But we deserved the win today that’s for sure and I’m delighted, even if we did make hard work of it.

"It’s our first competitive game as a new squad and we are still taking small steps one week at a time.

"We were good today but not outstanding and we all know that we have a long way to go and it’s all about us staying grounded and focused."
