WHITCHURCH United recorded their first league win since August on Tuesday night with a thrilling 4-2 victory away at high-flying Bashley.

The Jam Boys hadn’t won a Wessex Premier League match in nearly two months since their fine 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at the end of August.

But a brace for Jack McCarthy and goals from Scott Hassell and Danny Pollard helped Whitchurch break their poor run of form and secure them their second league win of the season.

The struggling Jam Boys went into the game as underdogs, having picked up just six points from their opening 10 games.

Meanwhile their opponents Bashley, who only joined the league this season, began the day riding high in fifth place.

However, the Jam Boys showcased their true ability on the night and held a healthy 4-0 lead until the final minutes of the game.

Whitchurch switched off in the final minutes allowing Bashley to score two late goals through Curtis Young and Kabba Jack, but held out to secure all three points.

The result moves United away from the relegation zone and three points clear of bottom side Verwood Town.

Whitchurch – in 19th place – face a tough trip away to Team Solent on Saturday.

They then travel to Fleet Town for a North Hants Senior Cup game on Tuesday night.
