IT HAS been a mixed week of results for Whitchurch United, as they recorded a win, draw and lost.

Last Wednesday, the Jam Boys scored four times in the second half to book a last four place in the Andover Open Cup, as they beat South Wonston Swifts 4-0.

The visitors to the Longmeadow did really well in the first 45 minutes as Damian Hack produced two good saves.

Fitness told after the break as Scott Hassell netted the opener, followed by a great goal from Declan McCarthy.

Ryan Lambert made the tie safe with 20 minutes left and Babucarr Bojong netted a fourth.

Whitchurch manager Carl Bennett said: "South Wonston certainly came and gave us a game especially in the first 45 minutes and deserved to go in at 0-0."

Last Saturday, Whitchurch returned to Wessex League Premier Division action and produced a superb comeback, as after 23 minutes they trailed 3-0 at Amesbury with former Jam Boy Dave Parry scoring their third.

The visitors pulled a goal back by the break, as Shaun Foster headed in a corner.

The home side then had a goal ruled out rightfully for hand ball, before Anders Manders reduced the lead to one goal.

Hassell with the equaliser a minute from time completed the comeback.

Bennett said: "We played some good football after the first 30 minutes, when they made the most of some defensive errors. we owed them from last time, so it was nice to get a point there."

On Tuesday night, Bennett was left fuming as his side played a rearranged Russell Cotes Cup tie at Fleet Town.

Whitchurch had been set for a league game on Wednesday night, but the switch cost him of at least eight players, as they travelled to a side from the league above.

Bennett said: "I told the players our only midweek game before Christmas was Wednesday, but they switched to a rearranged cup tie on Tuesday, so many unable to get off work and so I had the bare 11."

Fleet led in the first-half, but a wonderful free-kick from Declan McCarthy levelled things before the break.

Fleet won the game with two goals after the interval, both which Bennett felt should have been disallowed.

The Whitchurch boss said: "The first goal was clearing handball, even their manager felt this as he knocked the ball down. Their third goal the ball crashed off the crossbar and their guy has scored and he must have been offside.

"I was really happy as we played with the grit and determination. Nigel Green our goalkeeping coach had to play in goal, which was his first game for a few years and do well."

On Saturday, Whitchurch face a visit from high flying Blackfield and Langley.
