Danny Care reflected on his links with Jamie Vardy in the number nine jersey as England welcomed a quartet of football managers into their camp.

David Moyes acts as the Scot behind enemy lines for Tuesday’s double training session ahead of the NatWest 6 Nations showdown with Scotland in Edinburgh, while Stuart Pearce, Les Ferdinand and Hope Powell were also due to see Eddie Jones’ squad in action.

As a teenager Care was a gifted footballer playing alongside current Leicester striker Vardy before pursuing a career in rugby that saw him surpass Matt Dawson’s milestone as England’s most capped scrum-half in the round two victory over Wales.

“When I was with Jamie in the Sheffield Wednesday academy I would have laughed if you had said that one day I would beat Dawson’s record,” Care said.

“It’s pretty cool to see our two different stories with Jamie going all the way down the leagues and then all the way back up to the very top.

“I went to a totally different sport and we have both ended up wearing the England number nine shirt. It’s great.”

The visit of the four football figures, arranged through the League Managers’ Association, continues a trend for coaches from a variety of sports to watch the world’s number two ranked rugby team train at their Surrey base.

“When they come I’ll have to ensure the footballs are out there to show my skills!” Care said.

“We have had Gareth Southgate and Antonio Conte here before at training and it’s great that people want to come in and see what is going on with England.

“It’s testament to the success we have had in the last few years that people want to find out what we’re doing.”

Scotland produced mixed performances against Wales and France and they were only able to dispatch the latter after Ali Price came on at scrum-half and Greig Laidlaw replaced Finn Russell at fly-half.

“Greig Laidlaw is a really tidy player. He’s very confident about controlling games from either nine or 10 and is an experienced campaigner,” Care said.

“Laidlaw and Price complement each other really well and I am big fan of Price’s game. He has changed the way Scotland have played over the last year.”
