12:55pm Tuesday 20th August 2013 in Other Sport
The Civil Service Motoring Association Club - (CSMA) staged its "Big Weekend" at the Thruxton Circuit last week, a two day event packed with on and off track activities.
A mixed selection of races included the 250cc Karts, which hit speeds of more than 150 mph as they approached the Club Chicane and a demonstration of Formula 1 cars from the past which included the ex-Michael Schumacher Benetton B193.
With 14 races planned over the two days the first on Saturday saw Ben Palmer from Maidenhead win the MG Owners Club Championship race in his MG ZR160, a feat which he repeated on the Sunday.
Having had an easy win first time out the second race was much closer with Ben winning by under a second. The Mazda MX5s always provide close racing and although Jonathan Halliwell from Bournemouth did the double race win with Mere driver Ben Short taking a brace of third places. The BRSCC Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship entertained the crowd where Adie Hawkins in his Alfa Romeo 33 took both race wins.
Richard Atkinson-Willes and Ray Ferguson, both from Andover, took part in the two FOC Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic races with Richard finishing ninth and tenth in his 308 GT4 while Ray had 11th and 12th place results in his 348 Mondial.
