Bronze medals for Tidworth Taekwon do boys
1:20am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Other Sport
Tidworth Taekwon-do members William and Jacob Hemsley have won three bronze medals at the 2013 UKTA Welsh Open.
Both boys have performed extremely well before but this was their first medal-winning experience. They are both incredibly hard working and the effort they put in was evident as they did the school proud.
William begun the morning in the 10-14 year old green belt pattern event. He made it through a number of rounds, showing correct technique and power and was the only male competitor to achieve a medal in his category.
In the afternoon, William competed in the U14 green belt sparring where in his first round, he appeared nervous but dominated his opponent with some thoughtful and precise kicks and punches.
After this, he showed more confidence and despite facing a challenging competitor in the semi-final was delighted to have had such a successful day.
The first event for Jacob was the U10 yellow belt patterns where despite an excellent performance, he found it difficult to control his nerves and was knocked out before reaching the medal positions. In the U14 yellow belt sparring, his favourite event, he showed unstoppable energy and performed a large number of techniques in a short amount of time.
He also showed great determination when faced with a more aggressive competitor in the semi-final for his bronze medal position.
The club are very proud of both boys and delighted that they've received recognition of all their hard work.
They now look forward to the UK Open in November.
