The seventh Les Brant Classic Ranking Singles takes place at the Wolversdene Hayward Suite next Saturday October 26 sponsored by BTLS Hayley and Wimpy.
It is another opportunity to pay tribute to Andover’s senior darting statesman who is still banging in the tons and wins in both Friday and Tuesday night leagues.
Les’s remarkable form continues in to his eighties and is still more than a match for players half his age and a perfect role model for all the youngsters coming through the academy.
Another good reason for a healthy turnout is the re-introduction of ranking points for these events, with next year’s Classic returning to 64 entrants and any additional points could make the difference between being an Andover top 32 invite and having to go through the qualifiers.
Last year’s winner was Southampton’s Paul Gibbs who defeated former classic champion Paul Cook in a keenly contested final breaking the hold on the trophy by Swindon’s elite.
Previous champions include Dennis Smith in 2008, Mark Cox in 2009 and three times winner Johnny Haines in 2007, 2010 and 2011. There is £400 to the winner, with a prize fund paid to the last eight.
Entry fees remain at £7 per player taken on the day up close of registration 11.30am.
