Andover veteran runner John Goulding recently travelled to Kings Lynn to take part in the designated 10k British Masters Championships.
Starting and finishing in the town’s large square with stalls and a band it had a carnival atmosphere and in the town where most of the race was run had throngs of spectators enjoying the sun and the racing.
John, an earlier gold and bronze winner in the Over 75 category but now a month short of his 79th birthday and having dropped to seventh in the UK rankings, wasn’t expecting but was hopeful of a medal.
He was delighted to win silver and stand on the rostrum for the first three runners of each age group.
He also enjoyed running in the Andover AC vest and as a member of the SW Veterans Athletic Club in a time of 53mins57secs finishing 919th out of a field of almost 2,000 athletes.
