The Seniors have been busy in their pairs and singles match play competitions over the past few months and the finals have now been completed.

In the pairs, Alan Dixon (13) and Bob Houghton (18) were up against Guy Davis (8) and Mike Selby (23) and two birdies on holes two and five gave Davis and Selby a 2 up lead but Dixon and Houghton fought back to level at the halfway point.

Another birdie and then a par on ten and 11 saw Davis and Selby go 2 up and from then on it was a run of six halved holes which included good putts on 14 and 16 from Davis and Selby, which resulted in them winning 2 and 1.

In the singles the two lowest handicappers in the Seniors’ section made the final with Davis (8) conceding one shot to Vince Klass (9).

Davis went 2 up after two holes and was four up at the turn. A win by Klass at ten reduced the deficit briefly but Davis then won 11 and 12 with birdies to go five up and then halves in par on 13 and 14 saw him emerge victorious by 5 and 4.

Senior captain Ray Neath hosted a successful Senior Captain’s Day on August 10 despite the wet and windy conditions.

Almost 50 members from all sections took part which was a fine tribute to Ray who is enjoying a very good year as the senior captain.

The event itself offered many different prizes and the senior’s winner was Ted Richards who returned an excellent 39 point score in difficult conditions.

Sue Davis was the ladies’ winner with a very good 37 and she was also in the winning team which included Mark Lewis and Scott Smith, and their scores totalled 105 points.

Mark was also the men’s prize winner with 36.

The irrepressible Dean Cresswell was the men’s longest drive winner proving once again that age is no barrier.

Ladies’ longest drive was won by Julie Dixon, Scott Smith was nearest the pin in two on hole six, Lori Channon won the corresponding ladies’ prize on hole two, Ann Wake had the straightest drive on ten and Richard Channon was nearest the pin on four.

The putting competitions were won by John Dawson and Kim Couch.

At the evening dinner, Ray presented all of the prizes won so far during his captaincy and made a special presentation to John Dawson and his wife Jenny who are leaving the club after many years to move to Dorset and they will be missed.
