Three members of Andover Triathlon Club represented Great Britain at the recent World Triathlon Championships Grand Final in Edmonton, Canada.

Racing was spread over four days and Jan Taplin went in the Ladies’ Sprint Triathlon on the Friday and finished in an impressive 1.33hrs.

Initially she was credited with 11th out of 40 starters but the first woman was disqualified for not completing the swim course correctly giving Jan a top-ten finish and second amon the British contingent getting things off to a great start.

After a weekend watching the Elite races James Barber and Dan Mason were in the Mens’ Standard Distance Triathlon on the Monday.

Jan Taplin, James Barber and Dan Mason were at the World Championships Parade of Nations and being in different age groups they were in different starting waves.

Barber posted an impressive 23.17 mins for the 1,500m swim on the way to a 2.12hrs finish giving him 36th place out of the 67 strong field and tenth among the Brits.

Mason recovered strongly from a 26.21 mins swim and gained more than 25 places on the bike and run to finish in 2.17hrs and 36th out of 78 and sixth placed Brit..

Jason Briley, performance director at Andover Triathlon Club said: “We are seriously proud of what our friends from the club have achieved.

“To gain selection to go to the World Championships at all was a huge achievement, but to then produce such high quality performances and results is incredible.”
