Fighting Falcons travelled in numbers to Yeovil for the ISKA Infinity South West Regional Open.

With strong teams from London, Bristol and Wales it was the busiest the competition has ever been with some great talent on show. Thirteen fighters travelled and over the course of a long day brought home 14 individual trophies plus a silver from the senior tag team event.

First up were the juniors where Josh Poyser took a gold and silver in his light contact and points fighting divisions. This was Josh’s first ever gold medal and testament to the hard work he has put into his training over the last few months.

Alex Kynaston took a gold in her points fighting and a silver in her light contact debut which was a great effort against much heavier opposition.

Connor Burdock entered both the intermediate and advanced light contact coming away with two golds while cousins Abi Hollinshead and Jack Norris took home gold and silver in their points fighting debuts.

Kyle Schulze took a gold and a bronze in the boys novice and intermediate points fighting.

In the adults divisions Brandon Prince took gold in the -70kg advance points fighting while Jordan Edmonds took gold and silver from the men’s heavyweight light contact and novice points fighting.

Club instructor Jon Van Den Heuvel added yet another gold to his collection in a light contact division packed with top class fighters.

Tara Bradbury made her debut in the ladies’ light contact and while she didn’t bring home a medal she did herself proud in her bout with World Champion Ashley Brace.

Van Den Heuvel, Prince and Kynaston represented Team Falcons in the Tag Team Challenge bringing home second place after two entertaining matches against good quality opposition.

Nine golds, five silvers and three bronze is a good day at the office.
