THE Hampshire Golf Club’s seniors are top of the Winter League for the first time ever after a 3-2 win over local rivals Andover.

Captain Alan Dixon and Norman French claimed a valuable one up victory.

Guy Davis partnered Barrie Thompson in John Rogers’ absence in match two but lost the match one down, primarily due to some excellent golf from Andover’s John Sheen.

Vince Klass and Phil Jones secured a second consecutive home victory by 3 and 1, but Dean Cresswell and Richard Hale went down by 2 and 1.

So, with the match standing at 2-2, it was all down to the last match and the Hampshire pairing of Paul Ridge and Mick Mumford did not disappoint as they secured a win for themselves by 2 and 1.

Meanwhile, the club were celebrating not one but two hole in ones.

The first occured in the men’s November Stableford, when Roy Struthers bagged an ace on the fourth.

However, Struthers could only finish third overall in Division 2 behind winner Fred Willoughby and John Davis in second.

Stephen Pyle took the honours in Division 1, followed by Paul Ridge and Ian Folkes (13).

The second hole-inone was achieved in the recent seniors’ roll-up competition by Tony Taylor, also at the fourth.

This was the second time Taylor has achieved this feat, as he is already on the honours board for doing the same on the 12th.

Kim Couch and Neil McGowan were crowned Hopgood Trophy pairs winners.

Sue Davis took the pot in the individual competition, with David Millar second and Ray Neath third.
