ANDOVER Golf Club continued their winning form with a comfortable victory over Sandford Springs GC at a sunny and warm day at the excellent Winchester Road course.

This fixture is played for the Ash Patel Memorial Trophy which is a home and away fixture combining both results, and is always very keenly fought between the two clubs.

In previous years the team was captained by Anil Patel, but with the sad recent passing of Neil the trophy has been renamed the Ash and Neil Patel Memorial Shield.

This year the team was captained by Tom Smith who led the way with Roger Stephens, winning 4 and 3. Ex captains Mark Gates and Ken Harley matched the opening result with another 4 and 3 victory and another ex-captain in Dave Sneddon partnered by Laurie Beare were third out and although they won they couldn't match the opening groups score with a 3 and 1 win.

Dave Brooks and Paul Warmington had the joint best score with a 5 and 4 victory, Mick Batchelor and Allan King made the score 5-0 with a 3 and 2 win and current captain Chris Davies with Bill Groves wrapped things up matching the best result of the day with a 5 and 4 win.

Overall Andover had a full house 6-0 victory, something that Neil would have been very proud of and no doubt would have had something to say about it in the bar afterwards.
