Andover Golfing Society enjoyed its second meeting of the season recently with a high turnout at Hamptworth, on a perfect day for golf with warm sunshine on a course in excellent condition.

The occasion was the contest for the annual David Randall Spring Trophy and the society was pleased to welcome back William, one of David’s sons, and Robert, David’s brother, to present the prizes.

Scoring was high and the results tight on what was a memorable day for the player.

Guest prize: Robert Randall 38pts.

Timber kitchen utensil: Ed Thomas.

Nearest the pin, 4th: Meryl Cradduck, 8th: Sean Canham, 13: Graham Francis.

Nearest the pin in two:12th - Tony Ford.

Best front nine@ William Randall.

Best back nine: Geoff Rampton.

In the main competition Mick Mumford was third on a countback with 32 points.

Runner-up was Mark Hyson with 35 points, but the winner, bravely resisting the temptation to throw it all away by playing into the river at the last hole, and bracing himself for a ruthless handicap cut, was Tony Ford with a highly commendable 36 points.

The next outing is to Ogbourne Downs GC on the afternoon of Thursday May 14.
