ANDOVER netballers had a very successful evening at the Annual Hampshire Netball Goalden Globe awards held in Farnborough, winning three of the prestigious awards.

Andover Arrows Netball Club won the Outstanding Netball Club Award. It is a club that has developed over the years to increase participation of the sport, particularly among the younger generation.

Over the last 12 months, they have been proactive in supporting the Hampshire Youth Games and they also represent netball on the Council Sports Development Group.

The club run High 5’s, Junior and Senior teams and their members also volunteer in local schools and in the community.

They maintain a high standard of performance and are a Silver CAPS Club.

Sisters Andrea Westley and Kim Belbin, members of the Simply- Health ACES team won the Rose Award for their hard work in raising the profile of netball in Andover.

They have raised just under £3,000 over four years for the Andover Netball League by holding quiz nights.

The funds have helped keep the cost of the court fees down for the teams that take part in the league.

Along with this fund raising, they have secured a grant to help pay for netball posts to be sunk into the ground and add padding to the posts to ensure the safety of players and improve playing conditions.

Harrow Way school teacher Elaine Escritt won the Teacher award.

Elaine is an inspiration to her pupils, encouraging participation in clubs both in and outside of school.

She is the school club link teacher, runs clubs and competitions and arranges out of school trips to watch Super League games to improve their skills and promote aspirational achievement.

To add to the winners, Andover netballers were also nominated for a number of other awards – a great achievement for a small league in the county.

The winners will now be put forward for the South Region Netball Goalden Globe awards, which will be held on June 12.
