GOLFER Will Gilson had a record breaking day at the Hampshire Golf Club’s annual Club Championships, clinching the Gross Championship for the third successive year.

Gilson, who now holds the record for most consecutive wins in the competition, scored an impressive Gross 148 to clinch the Championship ahead of veteran Vince Klass who finished with a Gross 155.

The two-day competition, which is split into male and female categories, was helped by a mixture of good weather and a well maintained course which resulted in low scores across the board.

After the first day reigning champion Gilson held a two shot lead over veteran Vince Klass but in the second round Gilson powered ahead to beat his nearest rival by five strokes.

Vince Klass finished runner up with an impressive Gross score of 155.

In the Ladies competition Jacqui Norris, with a two day gross score of 179, was named Ladies Gross Champion for 2015 narrowly edging Lori Channon into the runners up spot with a gross 182.

The men’s nett competition was won by Colin Harris who scored a Nett 137, beating Gross champion Gilson who finished on Nett 138.

Meanwhile the ladies Nett was won by Sophie Robinson with a score of Nett 140 The Club Plate competition was won by Julie Dixon with a Nett 65 while Harvey Pratt claimed the Junior Plate, donated and presented by Mrs Wendy Ungi, with a Nett 82.

Men’s Nett Winner: Colin Harris (Nett 137), Runner Up Will Gilson (Nett 138) and 3rd place Gus Vuli (Nett 140).

Ladies Gross Champion: Winner Jacqui Norris (Gross 179), Runner Up Lori Channon (Gross 182).

Men’s Gross Champion: Winner Will Gilson (Gross 148), Runner Up Vince Klass (Gross 155) and 3rd place Steve Pyle (Gross 158).

In other Hampshire Golf Club news: Mid-week. The Hampshire Seniors and Ladies combined for their first mixed friendly match this season away against Sandford Springs.

The team consisted of Alan Dixon and last minute replacement Molly Grimes, Ray Neath and Jenny Perkins, Ted Richards and Lesley Compton, Richard Hale and Lori Channon, Don Pearson and Rosemary Parnell and Paul Ridge partnering Tracy Price. Playing a four ball better ball format, the team fought hard but against a strong home team but eventually ran out losers by four matches to two.

Last Saturday The Hampshire Golf Club also played a mixed friendly against Alton away at Alton.

The pairings were; Julie Dixon and Barry Crane; Jacqui Norris and Sean Norris; Tracy Price and Neil MacGowan; Rosemary Parnell and Barry Thorne; and Kim Couch and Guy Dixon.

Hampshire came away winners by a margin of three matches to two.
