THREE Andover Jiu-Jitsu fighters have battled their way to medal glory at the WCJJO World Championships.

Adam Phillips, Michael McGarry and Michael Cutting were all amongst the medals at the competition, held in September in Geneva.

The Andover trio, who all train at Kyouken BJJ at the Phoenix Centre, fought as part of the Great Britain team and competed with competitors from America, Canada, Australia and hosts Switzerland.

Michael Cutting retained his world title in the Individual Sport Jiu-Jitsu and also picked up bronze in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu event.

Michael McGarry picked up gold in the Masters Individual Sport competition and silver in the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Meanwhile Adam Phillips, who works as a business manager at Andover’s Santander by day, picked up silver in the Individual Sport Jiu-Jitsu category.

The trio then rounded off their success by helping the Great Britain to a group bronze in the team event.

Talking about the event, Phillips said: “It was an amazing experience.

“I’ve only been doing it for a couple of years so it’s great to have come this far.”

Cutting added: “It’s an honour to win world gold for a second time.”
