RICHARD Fettes and Ross Walkom were victorious in the recent Andover Table Tennis League’s annual Christmas Tournament.

The pair both won their finals in the competition, consisting of a two-player team handicap system.

The teams consisted of Division 1 players drawn with Division 2/nonleague players, who each play a singles match on a handicapped basis.

Due to the good handicapping, a number of games went to the deciding doubles, as did one of the semifinals matches.

The final commenced with a 21-18, 21-20 win for Richard Fettes over Nathan Shears.

Fettes’ partner Ross Walkom was only giving away six points per game against non-league player Yannick Rachel, so was firm favourite to win.

Rachel had other ideas and fought extremely hard but eventually lost 21-16, 11-21, 21-20.

Meanwhile in the league, Figheldean Table Tennis team kept up the pressure at the top of Division 1 with a 30 – 2 defeat of Hanson Panthers.

Brian Cook, Phil Cook and Lionel Coles all won three sets and Figheldean took the doubles as well in this one sided match.

Hanson ‘A’ were unlucky to come up against a strengthened Hanson Cougars and despite the 5-5 draw in sets, went down 18-20 in games.

Andy Barnes made the difference to Cougars as he won all his sets, Chris Stockdale won one and they teamed up to take the doubles.

Hanson A players Peter Henderson and Steve Rollason won two sets each and Dan Geary managed to win one when he overcame Gerry Vaughan.

A top-of-the-table clash in Division 2 saw Hanson Lions stumble to 17-22 against Hanson Pigeons.

This was an excellent result for Pigeons thanks to three sets each from Nathan Shears and Simon Przeklasa.

One set each for Lions players Darren Walkom , Ross Walkom and Mike Bonarius, together with the doubles was unfortunately not enough.

Adam Shears had a bad night lsoing to Ross Walkom.

Meanwhile 3D’s are sneaking up into a very challenging third position after the 30-6 win over Hanson Kestrals.

Steve Harris, Nicky Downs and Marie Dyke each took three sets.
