ANDOVER Golf Club seniors and ladies recently held their Christmas scramble at the Winchester Road course.

Each of the eight teams of five players made an extra effort to dress in festive attire.

The seniors captain presented the best dressed player with a special celebrity prize.

Bob Flaherty was noticeable as a rather large elf with rosy cheeks.

The golf took the form of a scramble, whereby two team members drove from each tee and then took alternate shots to hole the ball on each of the ten greens.

The winning team on the day was captained by Richard Gilderson ably assisted by Pat Goss, John Sheen, Roger Brooks and Brian Colliss with a nett score of 27.4.

The ‘wooden spoon’ in eighth place was Tom Sturgess, Marion Kesterton, Sandy Nealis, Adrian Boulton and Chris Kirby who won a Christmas pudding.

The golf was followed by an evening meal and entertainment led by the senior captain David Kettell and his wife Carole.

56 members and their guests sat down to dinner, followed by prize giving, and then Mike Bulpitt acted as the auctioneer and conducted a charity auction for ‘The Fred Brender Chocolate Father Christmas and his German stollen’.

The money raised went to the senior captain’s charity.
