A VERNHAM Dean roller-skater has earned a silver medal in her first national competition.

11-year-old Emily Robinson recently competed in the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating’s National Championships, which took place in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

The yearly event attracts over 300 skaters of all ages from across the country.

Emily went to the event as one of eight from the Moonrakers Roller Skating Club, which is based in Marlborough, Wiltshire.

The 11-year-old competed in the Elementary Category, earning silver despite it being her first national competition.

Meanwhile Emily’s team mates, Moonraker pair Lorna Reynolds, from Thatcham and Kristin Stacey, from Swindon were placed first and second respectively in the Masters (40+) category.

Moonrakers coach Jeremy Reynolds said: “Skating is a fun recreation.

But to achieve at this level, these skaters train for hours each week and continually push their physical and mental limits.

“We’re so proud of them and their inspirational achievements.”

Moonrakers skaters are now training towards British Championships with an eye on a coveted place on the Great Britain squad.

Moonrakers RSC train at Marlborough Leisure Centre and Wellington Academy, Ludgershall with an open session from 5-6pm on Saturdays at Marlborough for anyone interested in learning to skate.

The beginners’ session is open to all ages, with skate hire available.
