ANDOVER Hockey Club Men beat all but relegated Portsmouth 3-1 away from home on Saturday.

The Firsts looked the brighter side in the opening 15 minutes however it was Portsmouth who took the lead after a shot from short corner trickled over the line.

Andover hit back immediately as Sam Goacher latched on to a good through pass and swept the ball over the approaching keeper.

The teams went in level at the break but a good tactical talk at half time changed the game.

A quick counter attack ended with Olly Bridge slotting home from a narrow angle to give Andover the lead.

Bridge scored his second and Andover’s third from a penalty flick to earn Andover three crucial points.

Andover 2nd XI 3 Alton 4

ANDOVER Seconds fell to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Alton but so nearly produced a stunning threegoal comeback.

Alton scored three goals without response in the first half in what was a poor start from Andover.

However the Seconds fought back in the second half and scored early on through Ben Anthony.

Minutes later Andover were awarded a penalty flick after a Ben Evens shot was blocked by a foot and Sleeman-Hiscock converted it with confidence.

Andover earned another penalty flick, which the team decided to let goalkeeper Sam Toth take, and he fired the ball into the top corner.

Unfortunately, Andover’s attacking play proved costly as another strong counter attack from Alton resulted in them winning in the last few minutes of the game.

Winchester 5th XI 8 Andover 3rd XI 1

A WEAKENED Andover Thirds were thrashed 8-1 at the hands of Winchester Fifths.

Missing some key players prior to the match the Thirds knew they were in for a difficult game.

And Winchester took full advantage, gaining a 4-0 lead at half time.

Matt Browry scored one goal for Andover, however four more goal and a red card for Matt Hodgson compounded their misery.
