DEFENDING Andover Closed Tournament Ladies Doubles champions Marie Dyke and Nicky Downs retained their title with a comprehensive three-game win.

The pair beat Sue Purton and Val Fox 11-8, 11-9, 11-3 during the tournament, which commenced last Friday with the Cadets, Juniors and Ladies matches.

In the Cadets final, number-one seed Adam Shears put his league experience to good use, easily defeating newcomer Harry Rice 11-3, 11-3, 11-5.

In the Juniors final, number-one seed, and last year’s Cadets champion, Nathan Shears snatched a narrow victory over his brother Adam Shears, winning 7-11, 10-12, 8-11, 9-11.

The Mixed Doubles produced a hard fought final with a lot of good rallies, culminating with victory for defend ing champions Richard Fettes and Sue Purton over Andy Barnes and Marie Dyke.

In the main event on Sunday the Handicap Singles produced an interesting final between Peter Henderson and Val Fox.

Henderson had to start on -7 while Val started each game on 16 points.

Unfortunately Fox could not cope with Henderson’s spin serves and eventually lost 19-21, 19-21.

Meanwhile Hanson ‘A’ were in league action in Division One, thrashing a two-man Hanson Panthers 30-2.

Dan Geary, Peter Henderson and Steve Rollason all won three for the ‘A’ side.

Only Matt Carter managed some resistance when he took Geary to five games before losing 11-7, 7-11, 3-11, 11- 9, 11-3.

The result consolidates Hanson’s third place in Division One In Division Two Enham fell to a 21-14 defeat to a two player Hanson Pigeons Simon Prezeklasa was unavailable for Pigeons but that did not stop Nathan Shears and brother Adam Shears winning all of their sets to claim the tie.
