ANDOVER Tennis Club's Men's B team beat local rivals Overton 5-3 in a closely fought match.

The team went into the match having lost their previous having lost their previous match to a very strong Totally Tennis A without winning a set.

Bill Stuart and Dan Arnold managed to take a set off the Overton first pair, drawing 3-6, 6-4 with Stuart's steady play augmented by Arnold's more extravagant shot making.

The young pairing of Tom Lee and Will Moon beat Overton's second pair 6-1, 7-6 with nice shots and great movement round the court.

Moon’s driving and lobbing and Lee’s sharp volleying, coupled with determination in the tie break, earned them the win.

Stuart and Arnold then beat the second pair 6-3, 7-6 as Lee and Moon were beaten 6-1, 6-2.

However Stuart and Arnold's win carried Andover over for a 5-3 victory.

Meanwhile Andover's new Men's C team had a close encounter at Hampshire Court in Basingstoke.

Father pairing Jon Lee and Rob Moon played together as did their sons Tom Lee and Will Moon.

Moon and Lee drew 4-6, 6-4 against the first pair and lost a close game against the second pair 4-6, 5-7.

The less practised father pairing did well to draw both games 7-6, 6-2 and 7-5, 4-6.

However they Andover eventually lost the match 5-3.

A much changed Men's C team later took on Oakley.

Vets Players John Snowden and Alan Keenan joined to play alongside Rob and Will Moon.

Snowden and Keenan beat their opponents 6-0, 6-3, while the Moon pairing won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 to secure an 8-0 victory for Andover.

The Sarum (Salisbury League) Mixed Team had a welcome win against Riverside B at the Riverside club in Salisbury.

First couple Shaun MacDonald and Ros Hursell played steadily to win 6-1, 6-3, while Gregor Corcoran and Jennie Pope took longer to settle but came through well 6-4, 6-2.

In the Mens double the side won 6-3, 6-3, while the Ladies double dominated their pairing to guide Andover to welcome win.
