The Regional Championships was Andover Modern Triathlon Club’s first competition under the multitude of new rules which came in a couple of months ago, one being that the time for 1,000 points is now the same for males and females in the same class.
The timing in all classes for the shoot has been reduced from 40 seconds to 20 seconds for each shot and AMTC members had been trying to get used to this big change at their Friday evening sessions. Natalie Thomas, in the Senior Ladies’ class was disappointed with her scores of 76 and 73 for her 20 shot total of 149 for second place. The time for 1,000 points in the 3,000m classes (Youth A, Junior and Senior) has dropped for the ladies from 11 minutes 20 seconds to a ridiculous ten minutes, in line with the males. All three classes were running together and Natalie led from the start and looked very strong, clocking 12.06. She also swam very well, her first place time being 2.24.07, making her Regional Champion.
In the Youth B class (age 15-16), Mat Dewey was pleased with his shot total of 163 then led everybody round the 2,000m run to clock a superb winning time of 6.30. With a 200m swim time of 2.34.61, Mat was Youth B Regional Champion.
