Arms six go through in pool KO

Sixteen venues across Andover were again chosen to host the round robin Turners Butchers sponsored singles night. Almost 130 players had qualified to this stage and only 16 would be successful. While there were several notable casualties the last 16 has a familiar feel to it with 11 Premiership players left, six of whom come from the Southampton Arms A.

There were notable wins for Sean Curtis and Paul Fudge in beating previous winners Neil Davis and Karl Baxter and wins also for Mark Parry, John Heredge, Graham Holmes, Rob Rasey, John Francis, Nigel and Andy Bannan, John Gray and Gerry Breen who made up the full Premiership compliment. Congratulations also to players outside the Premiership including Carl Nicol, Sean Norris, Ryan Austin and Paul Savage on reaching the last 16. Lurking ominously though is Colin Harris who came through a very tough final match with chairman Peter Young and he will be keen to add to his 13 Andover Pool Singles titles.

Draws for the next round of all the cup competitions will be at venues this week.

The Andover Pool open is progressing at pace as 32 places have already signed on and more are expected. The competition remains open to players of all standards from all the divisions and surprises do happen.

Closing date for all entries will be Thursday February 18 with players notified of their exact start times well in advance. The APA would like to thank John Francis, Karl Baxter and Rob Rasey for their continued support of this competition.

Captains are reminded that January 29 is race night at the Swallow. It is an open event and all are welcome.
