Andover II 3 Basingstoke III 31.
Steve Rogerson’s Seconds played their final home match and Basingstoke were bolstered by a number of second and first team squad players.
With the wind taking its toll, Josh Gibbs could only convert one penalty as Andover dominated the scrums with Andy Dawkins, Rogerson and Jack Rennison outstanding.
Just before half-time Basingstoke finally broke the stranglehold and signalled things to come with a try under the posts.
With Rogerson off through injury, Dean Andrews stepped in as hooker but Basingstoke used their big squad well and making space to score. Winger Tim Smith took a boot to his face and seven stitches and as always, Billy Pollard and man of the match Richard Budd were everywhere around the field, but it was Basingstoke’s youth, fitness and well drilled team that won them the game.
