ANDOVER celebrated long into the night after finally recording their first league win of the season away to a tough Trojans outfit last weekend.

It was just reward for the ever improving All Blacks outfit who have been threatening a result like this for the past few weeks.

“It’s fantastic for the lads who have been trying so hard to improve and compete at this higher level and this will give them so much confidence”

said team coach Jody Morgan.

From the start the powerful Trojans had Andover defending and before long they grabbed a try in the corner.

Undeterred, Stefan Long chased down the restart and the backs linked superbly for Patrick Holmes to cross the line with Rich Woodley converting.

With their tails up Andover attacked hard, forcing the hosts to give away a penalty, which Woodley slotted perfectly.

Thinking the job was done, Andover relaxed and were swiftly punished as the hosts scored under the posts.

Andover snapped back into focus and strong running from Woodley saw him crash over just on the halftime whistle.

In the second half fresh Trojans legs saw them score to make it level at 17-17 and a dogfight ensued as the teams threw everything at each other – Trojans taking the lead midway through the half.

There was strong running from Tommy Gentleman and Andover, led by inspirational skipper Craig Allen, showed what real determination is all about.

With less than two minutes left on the clock a clearance kick was coolly taken by Long who, from his own 22, cut through three defenders before outpacing the defence to score under the posts.

It now just relied on the steady boot of man of the match Woodley and he made no mistake to give Andover a win they wholly deserved.

Afterwards the whole team joined in wishing Evan Gwynne Davies a speedy recovery after being carried from the field with a serious looking leg injury.
