ANDOVER Rugby Club Seconds suffered a 34-15 home defeat to league leaders Gosport and Fareham.

In their last home game of the year, Leon Taylor nearly put Andover in front five minutes in but was stopped just inches short of the try line.

Andover used their trademark powerful scrum to win the ball and as the pass found its way to George Roscoe a little bit of magic happened.

A little chip and chase saw Roscoe catch his own kick and sprint over to score the try of the match. Gosport fought back and with Dean Andrews sin-binned, they edged in front with two quick tries.

Not to be beaten, Andy Franklin then produced a lovely cross-field to Patrick Holmes who scored to make it 12-13 at the break.

After the interval Gosport began to dominate and added two to put daylight between their battling opponents.

Roscoe tried to keep Andover’s hopes alive with a penalty but Gosport held out to win 34-15.
