Probe launched after chemical leak
A investigation has been launched into a chemical leak that forced road closures and an emergency evacuation in Greater Manchester.
Householders living near a chemical plant in Trafford Park were warned to stay indoors after hydrochloric acid leaked on the premises.
Emergency services were called to the building in the Tenax Road area shortly after 6.15pm on Friday and ordered an immediate evacuation.
A large number of roads were also closed as a precaution and motorists were asked to avoid the area, Greater Manchester Police said.
The force added that fire officers and specialist staff on site managed to contain the leak.
Superintendent Chris Ullah from Greater Manchester Police said: "There are no reports of injuries or any people requiring medical attention.
"We are now starting to scale down the emergency service response and return normality to the area as quickly as possible.
"The cause of the leak is not yet known but will be investigated once the building is safe."
