Stars onside for World Cup anthem
Take That star Gary Barlow has teamed up with Gary Lineker as well as other past England stars to record the squad's song for this summer's World Cup.
Barlow is going from Back For Good to back-four good as he headed into the studio today to work on the as-yet-unnamed track.
Chart stars including Katy B, Mel C and Pixie Lott are among the figures who will also feature on the anthem designed to spur on England's hopes in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
A group of 12 former England players - including the likes of Sir Geoff Hurst and Michael Owen - was at Sarm Studios in West London this morning where they also worked on the video to accompany the track.
It was also the location for the recording of the B and Aid single in 1984 and the new promo will be unveiled for the first time during the TV broadcast for Sport Relief night on Friday, March 21.
The former players, who between them have played in many World Cups, also included Dion Dublin, ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle, David Seaman and Peter Shilton.
Hoddle has already had his own taste of chart success having reached number 12 in 1987 with Diamond Lights, which he released with Chris Waddle.
Gary Mabbutt, Gary Pallister, Carlton Palmer, Martin Keown and Kenny Sansom have also taken part in the recording for England's official 2014 Fifa World Cup song. Although the video will be unveiled on Sport Relief night, the single will not go on sale until nearer the start of the tournament.
At the last tournament in 2010, England did not have an official anthem although an unofficial release featuring James Corden and Dizzee Rascal called Shout managed to top the charts. The 2006 World Cup song World At Your Feet was released by Embrace and went to number three in the singles chart.
Mel C had a prominent role on an earlier England song - along with her Spice Girls colleagues - when she performed with Echo And The Bunnymen star Ian McCulloch on (How Does It Feel To Be) On Top Of The World, which was released under the name England United.
Another Spice Girl, Emma Bunton, is involved in the new song, along with Eliza Doolittle, Conor Maynard and Kimberley Walsh.
Sir Geoff featured on the 1970 England song Back Home, while Shilton has the distinction of being involved with not only that song but also the 1990 track World In Motion by Englandneworder.
