Councillor needs to resign and do it soon
10:45am Thursday 15th August 2013 in Your Say
IN last week’s Advertiser I note that the leader of Test Valley Borough Council Cllr Carr appears to claim credit for the proposed dash-and-go parking in the town centre.
I wouldremind himthat this proposal was put forward to the borough councillors by Cllr Tony Hooke over two years ago and repeated in his election campaign in May.
On arriving in Andover 45 years ago and taking an interest in the town and its residents I was asked, andagreed, to represent them on the local council.
I genuinely served the people on the Andover Borough, Test Valley District, Andover Town, Test Valley Borough, and Hampshire County (both Andover North and South) councils and was the last Mayor of Andover in 1976.
During Cllr Carr’s rule I have seen the steady decline of our town. In fact, about nine years ago it was his council that abolished most of the town centre short-term parking and only a couple of years ago raised the parking charges in this era of cutbacks (possibly to assist the £2,000 per councillor per annum increase on their personal allowances).
I will end my letter by relaying what a considerable number of people have: “It’s time Cllr Carr resigned to allow someone else to get on with the job of restoring our town to a place that they can be proud of.”
