Railway line would be asset
10:55am Thursday 22nd August 2013 in Your Say
THE proposal to have a heritage railway line from Andover to Ludgershall, and maybe beyond, is indeed a good one.
For one thing the permanent way, (the track work etc) is already in place; this is the part that most of the country's heritage railways have struggled with in the past, sourcing and relaying suitable track.
Not only is this still in place, it is still used and looked after, so work on other things, like buildings and rolling stock, could get under way fairly quickly.
It would be a huge asset to both towns, it would even be possible to link Andover station to the town with a shuttle bus so that tourists could visit the town centre.
We could even attract a model shop to open up in the town!
Heritage railways are mostly run by volunteers, and I feel certain that there is a large pool of potential staff in the area; indeed, you can put my name down straight away.
Maybe we need to have a meeting somewhere of potential volunteers to see just how many there are? Who would one contact to offer their skills and services anyway?
