Council boss' resignation is only solution
3:27pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Your Say
AGAIN, we have more than one letter complaining about the way Test Valley Borough Council is run and calling for Councillor Ian Carr to resign as leader.
I want to add my voice.
The appalling state of the town is beyond dispute: the measures proposed by the elected council barely scratch at the surface of the fundamental problems the town suffers.
The town centre and Walworth industrial estate are dying on their feet, largely due to council greed for income through parking fees, rents and rates.
The leader must take responsibility for this disaster. For his inaction, he draws £18,889/year in allowances according to the council website.
We hear about career politicians in the press, but it seems the disease has spread down to councillors seeing their allowances as a major income stream.
Councillor Carr declares being a director of a financial company, and doubtless he spends time on that business as well as pocketing his council allowances.
We, the people who are struggling with increasing prices and static wages, would accept that if he and his council were achieving anything to help us to provide better services and reduce our outgoings, but he doesn’t.
It is an open secret many of his own Conservative councillors feel he is doing a poor job, but the party whip muzzles them.
There is a solution: councillor Carr must resign, and resign now, to hand council leadership over to someone who will make it their priority to help the people of Test Valley.
