I FELT I had to write as there has been so much bad press about our NHS.

Well, I want to contradict this.

I have recently lost my husband to cancer, but from the beginning of his diagnosis to the end, we could not have had more support.

Dr Pawley, at Shepherd Spring Medical Centre, who sent him for diagnosis, and her lovely helpful staff were always there and helpful in times of need, including the pharmacy.

We also had support from Winchester Hospital, particularly the Nick Jonas Chemotherapy unit, and the the wonderful staff of the Macmillan Cancer trust (particularly Jane Ware) and the the staff of the Countess of Brecknock Hospice.

John spent many times in and out of hospital and was always treated with respect and dignity, and as a wonderful cook himself, enjoyed every meal served at Winchester; they cook it fresh on site with lots of choice.

When we sadly lost John at home the help didn’t stop there, they all have continued to support us as a family.

We are all indebted to you for your kindness and compassion.

I am proud of our NHS team and so should you be.
