IN his letter to the Advertiser (Plenty of new plans by UKIP) Councillor Hooke gave a commendable pledge that the Andover police station would be reinstated.

The top two priorities of our police and crime commissioner are: to reduce crime and reduce incidents of antisocial behaviour.

To achieve these aims a town the size of Andover needs to have a police station, appropriately manned and with the necessary facilities.

Surely, the absence of a station and police on our streets, who are able to react in sufficient time, will embolden criminals to commit crime.

It is also likely that more antisocial behaviour will go unchecked.

It is plain to see that much low-level crime and antisocial behaviour is currently ignored and not reported.

Recent reports in the national press suggest that the police now want the public to conduct their own investigations into crimes like burglary.

The potential outcome of chaos is extremely probable and the victims of crime will become even more disgruntled.

Everyone in Andover needs to support Councillor Hooke’s common sense and aspiration to reinstate a fully functioning police station.
