REGARDING the Andover Business Park sculpture, I have visited the new creation and found it every bit as good as I expected it to be.

Some months ago about 30 of us attended a public meeting at The Chalkhill Blue pub to discuss it, and a very friendly and happy occasion it was too.

I was there in an unofficial role as an ex-RAF sergeant aircraft electrical fitter but there were also some very experienced ex- RAF pilots, some council department art officials who had been involved in the project, and an ex- RAF officer representing RAFA.

The artist, Chris Brammall, was also there with the project manager.

He won the competition for that design from 69 entries and told me he started his working life as a blacksmith.

Another work that the artist designed, and his company built, was the impressive entrance canopy for the Churchill War Rooms in London.

The RAF ‘Andover’ type aircraft (HS748) appears in silhouette form at the top right of the memorial.
