I HOPE I am given the right to reply to Mr Weeks’s letter published last week (November 7).

His letter was naïve to say the least. We also both seem to be vying for space in your excellent newspaper!

He should visit Weyhill Road and witness what it is like.

I should point out that Martin Way, compared to Weyhill Road, which is a main artery road into Andover itself, is a sleepy backwater.

I would like to believe that any sensible pavement-user would “stop and give right of way to a driver reversing out of a driveway”, but in reality, Mr Weeks, they rarely, if ever, do.

Mr Weeks hasn’t experienced what I see on a daily basis living on Weyhill Road. Cyclists both in the early morning or early evening after shifts hurtle, yes hurtle, down on the pavement outside my home with no lights or hiviz.

Not in a million years would or could they ever stop and give way to a driver reversing or forwarding out of a driveway.

The decision by Cllr Woodward to singularly allow this bi-directional cycleway on what should be a pedestrian sanctuary will only exacerbate the problem, is nothing more than legalised insanity and will be an accident waiting to happen.
