IN reply to Ron Wood’s letter of 21 November regarding marking those who fell in the Great War the roll call from 1921 WAS read to mark those who gave their lives.

It was read during the vigil service held at St Mary’s Church on 4 August, a service which commemorated 100 years of when war was declared. The church was packed and following the service those present joined other people at the Cenotaph for ‘Lights Out’ honouring those men.

There were far more people at this commemoration than at the one Ron Wood says was the main attraction in the Chantry Centre. I believe this was the first time the names were read since 1921. Was Mr Wood at this service?

The Remembrance Service not only honours the soldiers of World War One but all members of the armed forces from every conflict since then and everyone is remembered.

During the next two weeks trees will be planted in Harmony Woods by schoolchildren and marked as a commemoration of World War One.

Not having heard of Cllr David Bateman I looked up to see where he is a councillor.

I find he is a parish councillor for Monxton, not Andover!
