FREE parking in Andover?
No, No, No.
Our town is already infested with too many of these noisy, polluting, dangerous machines and we certainly shouldn’t be encouraging more.
To do so would inevitably result in demands for more valuable space to be sacrificed to accommodate them.
What is needed is to encourage and facilitate use of public transport and one would hope that the provision of our excellent new bus station would encourage this.
Also more cycle paths such as that behind the multi story car park – which is an excellent facility.
Car pollution – as well as making a significant contribution to climate change – also has local health effects.
A recent report states the finding that young children in buggies, etc being at a nearer level to exhaust discharge, are very likely to suffer long term respiratory health problems.
No doubt the fact that the NHS is under strain contributed to by side effects of that ‘sacred cow’ of our society – the motor car.
More cars? No, No. No.
