RE D Weeks’ letter, 5 December.

Bearing in mind the axiom (attributed to Mark Twain) that “there are lie, damned lies and there are statistics” – in seeking to stall, rather than advance any debate through parroting comprehensively out of context statistics, Mr Weeks (and his supporter) do not seem to realise that, one – geographically and geopolitically, the UK is not Germany, and, two – Germany has phased out, or is rapidly doing so, its nuclear energy programme, and has been politically and strategically neutered, having made the decision, short-sighted in every respect, to become totally dependent on Russia for its supply of gas.

The other ‘boom’ in Germany, and not noticed by Mr Weeks, is the ‘report’ from the sudden sharp increase in German electricity bills. But then I suppose that if one is promoting the generation of electricity by the most inefficiently expensive means possible, it is a case of “if the cap fits, wear it”.
