IN our new occasional series the Andover Advertiser is publishing a “thank you” column featuring messages sent in by readers.

Whether you would like to show gratitude to a loved one or a complete stranger, this is the place to do it.

Send your messages to mike.sims@andover advertiser.co.uk and include your name and the name of the person you wish to thank.

I WOULD like to thank all the people who stopped to help my elderly mother when she fell over near Church Close on Friday, 30 January. In particular, special thanks must go to the unknown lady who took the time to take my mother home in her car.

Although not seriously injured, my mother was shaken up and probably didn’t give the best of directions. We are very grateful for your help.

I AM writing on behalf of Andover Choral Society to thank our local Test Valley borough councillors for backing our society through the support of the Test Valley Councillors’ Community Grant scheme.

We were delighted to receive a £250 grant from Cllr Iris Andersen on behalf of the councillors of St Mary’s Ward and in addition we received a £100 grant from Cllr Zilliah Brooks on behalf of the councillors of Millway Ward.

This money will contribute towards the costs of our concert performance of Carmen by Bizet on 9 Ma at The Lights in Andover. Andover Choral Society will be joined by the distinguished soloists of The Black Cat Opera Company in concert excerpts from Bizet’s most celebrated opera.

COULD I use this column to heap praise on all our serving policemen and women, this of course includes the sterling work that our police support officers do as well.

Into this thanks I would add all the ambulance personnel who accompany our police, and take patients to Winchester, Andover and Basingstoke hospitals. It is far too easy, once the original drama has passed, to forget to appreciate all the work that the relevant services do for the benefit of the public.

So may I thank all the people who work on our behalf and keep us safe.
