IN most good companies there is now a near-miss accident procedure to try and prevent accidents occurring in the future.
I could easily observe fourplus near misses per hour on that roundabout by Enham Arch Tesco. I regularly get cut up by motorists who have not got a clue either how to use the roundabout or exactly where they are going.
Now I don’t blame the motorists because they get halfway round and suddenly have to change lane to where they want to go. In addition, now that the road markings are disappearing, trying to negotiate the way round this roundabout is difficult.
I know of motorists that actually avoid this obstacle and drive to the Tesco store by another route.
It would be really interesting under the freedom of information act to ask what protocol and risk assessment was conducted before this type of roundabout was introduced.
I cannot believe normal everyday drivers would have been used to determine the risk factor, if indeed one was ever conducted.
And this is just about this roundabout, heaven help those that have to regularly use that monstrosity at Weyhill.
Still, what would the planners care?
