NOT so long ago the Advertiser was accused of pro-UKIP bias, although having read it since 1991 I have found it to be well balanced in its coverage of the political situation.

Former editor Joe Scicluna was accused of bias by both sides in the megashed dispute and editors are always at risk of such an accusation.

Newsquest editors are not told what party line they must take, unlike those in other media groups.

I must declare an interest as a columnist on the Newsquestowned Southern Daily Echo, when I say the group adheres to fairness and accuracy, and is usually prompt in rectifying mistakes.

I would also like to express my sympathy with readers who have suffered from lost or delayed mail in recent weeks. During the autumn of 2013 myself and other residents of Danegeld Close received mail for adjoining streets, and when I made enquiries I heard reports of expected mail not turning up.

However the post office management at the time were very sympathetic and there was a prompt improvement in the service.

Let us hope there is a speedy resolution for the residents of Andover and Ludgershall this time. Are people in Whitchurch and Overton and other areas experiencing problems?
