REGARDING the special constables picture, above, in last week’s Advertiser.
My grandfather Thomas Whatley (Tom) was a special during the Second World War.
He lived at 38 Abbotts Ann during that time, I remember tales of him chasing poachers (I am sure he did a bit of that himself). I was born in August 1946 and lived with my grandparents and have memories of his black cloak hanging on the hook by the door and the truncheon.
