LIKE many other readers, I have just seen national news coverage of a speeding cyclist colliding on a pavement with a three-year-old toddler who was subsequently dragged for yards along the pavement and suffered facial injuries.

My thoughts immediately went out to the toddler and her family and although this happened in Blackpool a couple of months ago, I can see parallels happening on the recently-completed insane bi-directional cycleway along Weyhill Road.

I am retired and cycle virtually every day but always on the road. Pavements are for pedestrians and this is Andover, not Amsterdam, where I was only a few weeks ago and enjoyed cycling there very safely because Amsterdam has dedicated cycle lanes as part of the road for cyclists.

Many of us who live here are in no doubt that a similar incident to that caught on CCTV in Blackpool will happen along this stretch of Weyhill Road.

Our out-of town councillor Woodward, who single-handedly approved this scheme in 2014, should hold his head in shame because I, and many others who live here, have no doubt that there will be incidents on this stretch of pavement along Weyhill Road which now resembles a F1 circuit.

And when an incident does happen, I for one cannot wait to see HCC, TVBC and Cllr Woodward appearing in court to justify their mystifying and very expensive decision made in 2014 to approve this appalling, under-used and expensive facility which continues to put pedestrians, old and young, at risk by speeding cyclists.
