I RECENTLY spent a morning in Ludgershall, which I have not visited for a few years.

The original intention was to see if there had been any further progress on the proposed development of the idea for a railway link between Andover and Ludgershall, a story which appears to have gone quiet after the initial bout of enthusiasm a few years ago which appeared to have the backing of Sir George Young.

Are you aware of the current position on this venture?

I accessed the site of the original Ludgershall station by walking to the right of the old hotel, turning left and proceeding to the very end of this residential area and past several derelict garages.

I was shocked to arrive at a complete eyesore: a huge rubbish site overrun with a mountain of fly-tipped items such as old carpets and other domestic paraphernalia, which (apart from the disgusting sight) must surely be a health hazard to the local area.

Unfortunately I did not have a camera with me to prove the point, but next time one of your photographers is in the Ludgershall area photographing the other eyesore causing concern behind the Wellington Academy, would it be possible for him/her to produce and publish some evidence of this situation as well?

I don’t know who the offending land belongs to, but I can’t believe this situation has been allowed to escalate without the owner being called to account, an infestation of rats, or an order being placed on the local council to render this area safe for residents.

Perhaps some publicity in the newspaper might work miracles.
