I TOTALLY agree with Alan Turner that the Weyhill Road cycle path is a complete waste of money and very dangerous.

The incident of a threeyear- old in Blackpool being mowed down as she walked out of her gate shocked us all, but the cyclist in question did not stop and was only fined.

There must be other cases of people being hit for, as Mr Turner states, pavements are for pedestrians. The child could have been more seriously injured, and it could well happen on Weyhill Road or on any pavement where cyclists speed with no concern for pedestrians.

There used to be a mirror reflecting pedestrians emerging from the walkway from my road, Heath Vale, on to the Winchester Road. Since Enham built Bradbury Place, this mirror has not been replaced – ridiculous as its residents are all disabled.

Therefore it is a blind spot for both cyclists, who are riding illegally by the way, but there are no police to stop them, and pedestrians/ wheelchair users/mothers with prams emerging into the main road.

Only yesterday I walked out of the pathway and narrowly missed being hit by one of these illegal cyclists.

I called him a choice name but as usual, was ignored, no apology of course.

The laws on pavement cycling should be enforced and perpetrators fined and made to take a cycling proficiency test, or at least learn the Highway Code. But alas, who will enforce them?
